Free SEO Audit Checklist for Small Businesses

Short answer: a useful free SEO audit ends with a short list of decisions, not a long list of tool warnings.

Start with pages that matter

List the pages that should create enquiries: the home page, core service pages, real service-area pages and the contact path. For each page, write the question it should answer and the next action a visitor should take. This prevents an audit from treating every URL as equally valuable.

Check whether Google can find the intended page

Confirm that the important URL returns normally, has one intended canonical address and is linked from relevant pages on the site. A sitemap can tell Google about pages that are new or updated, but it does not prove that those pages are indexed. Use Google's crawling and indexing documentation and Search Console data to separate discovery from indexation.

Read the first screen like a customer

Does the page say what the business does, who it helps and why someone should contact it? A technical score does not solve a generic service message. Make the service, proof and contact route visible before expanding the copy.

Turn findings into a sequence

Broken access and wrong canonical choices come before more content. A clear service page comes before a new blog post. Use a free 30-minute SEO audit to turn the first list into an accountable plan, then review search performance after changes have had time to be crawled.
